My wife parked on the SE corner of 8th St. and Maple Ave. last night and found the car broken into in the morning. Besides a 2″ scrach on the side, this is the first time we really had any problems parking in the area. LAPD says the vandalism reports in the area usually involves someone taking valuables from the car. The person shuffled through threw everything out of the glove box, but nothing was taken.
It took me all morning to rent a Flexcar for my wife for the day, go to LAPD station to file a report, and take it in to fix the window.

After the fire department’s REG 4 testing, they requested that we test our smoke detectors in all everyone’s units twice a year. To test, all you have to do is press the button on it and if it beeps, you’re good. Now is a good time to test and we will have to test again the first of the year.
Please check your smoke dectectors and add a comment to this post when everything tests successfully, so your unit can be checked off. Selma will collect the results, so we can get signed off from the fire department. If you prefer not to write to a public site, please send a message directly to Selma.
A letter will also go out to all homeowners, but this will help make the process easier.

Don Garza reports a Globe St.com article about our building. I didn’t realize that the Textile Building was the first in the area to use the Mills Act.

At the August 7 HOA meeting, the board had asked me to turn off the email notification to the mailing list. I’ve removed the homeowners mailing list from the blog site notification list. If anyone still want to receive the notifications, I can add individual addresses. Just send me a request at “jason at textilebuilding dot org”.
Or if you read many websites, I would suggest an RSS reader. Google Reader and Bloglines are very popular web based readers that I would recommend. I personally use Bloglines to keep track of 50 websites daily. With the reader, it takes about 5-10 minutes everyday to check and read all 50 sites. Most web sites support RSS feeds.

I left a bag of Whole Foods branded potting soil in the corner of the trash room. If anyone needs this, be sure to pick it up before the trash person cleans it up tomorrow.

Can anybody tell me when the next HOA meeting is schedueled? I thought it was every month. It should be. Very frustrating. I am constantly meeting fellow Textilian’s who have issues they wish to raise. But, when and where?
Two weeks ago a film company used our building, unit 801 I believe, for a film shoot. It was official; posted etc. Tomorrow, Aug. 3rd they are shooting an Acura commercial outside (and in?) the building. It appears that our building will be featured. My question is; who negotiated these deals and under what authority. And how much did the HOA receive for the “use of image” of our building? This is somewhat urgent as the shoot is tomorrow. Our dues maintain this building, elevators, facade etc. We should be handsomely compensated for that use. Anyone know anything?
