Did anyone else see the notice(s) from the city posted on the retail space on the ground floor, reprimanding the owner for having installed security grates on an historical building without the proper permits, and giving him the option to either remove the grates, or to get the permits? I noticed that the last notice had been removed today.
Was this action taken independently by the city, or was this in response to our board’s request?

One of the homeowners apparently does not understand that they are living within a community where everybody has the same interest in maintaining the building; especially the common space.
The roof is common space.
The roof top is littered with cigarette butts that give off a noxious stench as well as make the area look like the filthy streets surrounding us. Isn’t it enough we have to walk along littered streets, do we have to come home to it as well? I’ve also noticed the alley way behind our building is filling up with cigarette butts. Could it be that someone is dumb enough to toss their trash from either the rooftop or from their window?
The Entry way, exterior and Interior is common space:
Some poor dog is urinating on the marble in the exterior entrance alcove. Either the same poor dog or another then compounds the mess by alleviating him/herself their again. (The second dog, if there is one, smells the scent and has to pee in the same spot.) I say poor dog because by allowing their dog to urinate on common space without cleaning it up shows lack of consideration for anyone or thing besides themselves. Besides the mess and damage marble, at some point someone will slip on this mess and sue the Home Owners Association for damages and the person suing will win their case, hands down, which in turn will raise our insurance cost raising our HOA dues in order to cover the amount.
Last, I understand tobacco’s addiction and why anybody silly enough to smoke in this day and age wouldn’t want to smell up their loft with the acrid scent cigarettes give off. One solution I guess is to hold the cigarette out their window. Bad solution! I didn’t give up smoking to be killed by a neighbors second hand smoke. I don’t want my home to smell as if I’ve lit up and if you don’t want your home to smell like butts then go outside walk away from the building and smoke to your lungs content. Just don’t make it mine or any other non-smokers problem.

Per the By Laws;
Home owners are to be given sufficient notice; the minimum time given is 10
days prior to a home owners meeting.
Prior to that notice and just as it did when an election was held,
homeowners are asked to, in writing, list any issues they would like
included.
Per the Board the management company mails the notice of the meeting along
with the ‘agenda, designating any issues that will be voted on. Included
with the memo stating date, time and location of the meeting and the agenda
is a proxy sheet with clear instructions stating that if you can not be at
the meeting your are to designate who you want to deliver your vote, another
words who are you giving your legal proxy to. If you do not have a signed
proxy at the time of the meeting you lose the right to vote; period! (Your
vote can not be divvied up among the home owners who are attending.)
I know I am not alone when I state that I am very frustrated by the lack of
communication either directly from the Board members themselves or through
their proxy, Selma at LB Management.

Is anyone else concerned about the clicking noise coming from the elevator?
Update: Sent message to Selma around 5pm today
Selma,
The right elevator is making noises like it is hitting something.
When going up from lobby to 6th floor, I hear it a couple of times on
the way up. I’ve been working on my laptop on the 6th floor hallway
for the past 30 minutes and often hear something hitting the door
everytime the elevator passes.
Don’t know if it is related, I also notice some scratches on the right
elevator door looking from the 6th floor. Looks like the door scratches
a little when it opens and closes.

For those who haven’t heard, the Downtown BID is hosting this weekend’s Downtown Living 2007 event. There will be several open houses for condo/apartment projects in the area. Santee Village will be hosting an opening event and will probably introduce their 3 new buildings to the public. I still remember attending their 2005 event, which was what led me to the Textile Building.

According to Renea’s message, the HOA meeting is on March 15. I hope the official meeting notice gets out soon because short meeting notices are difficult for many to attend.

Jackie addresses a concern of emails versus blog:
I know immediately if there is an issue in the building versus not knowing until I go look at the blog system. Accessing the blog is just another place/to do item that I need to do and I really don’t have the time. I am also unable to access the blog during work hours due to the nature of the site because of my company blocking.
For those who don’t use RSS feeds, I see it as a big inconvenience. I’ve added email notification capability, thanks to the email notification plugin.
When you write a post now, there is a drop down option to send an email to the mailing list, which has “Yes” selected by default. I haven’t tested this much, so lets see how well this works. Hopefully, this addition will encourage more people to use the blog.

As for Michael’s question about having mailing list messages available by browser, it actually is already archived and is available to list subscribers. Messages can be accessed from the lists.textilebuilding.org page. However, I find it difficult to find info there because a list of emails is not really categorized or tagged with subject headings. Oh and just to let everyone know, all mailing list messages are archived in my database, backed up by my hosting company at Garland Building, and data stored permanently.

In a message to the mailing list, Jill mentions about the trash:
…… it’s a MESS back there and it has been for a couple of weeks now. And from what I see, one of the lovely tables from the roof was dropped/thrown or fell from up top (most likely from that party a few weeks ago). Where is our cleaning crew and what is their cleaning schedule?
I took the below photos of the trash room and recycle room tonight to show how it typically looks down in the basement.

As Jill mentioned, a copy of maintenance schedule to everyone would help. It would let us all know what the expectations are with the cleaning and if something was missed, so that we can communicate difficiencies to LB Prop. I’m curious to know how often the stairways should be cleaned. I’m one of the few that often uses the stairs and its slippery due to so much dust. In fact, if you rub your fingers on the floor, it turns black.
As for all the boxes there, my previous building’s policy is for everyone to break down your own boxes, so they can be stacked. Is that an expection of the cleaning people?
There is a computer monitor that’s been sitting in the recycle room for a while. Because California law prohibits electronic waste from being thrown in the trash, it should be disposed of properly. DWP provides information on what to do with these. If it still works, I would suggest whoever left it there to donate it. I usually take my junk unused electronics to the Goodwill Store on Broadway, between 2nd and 3rd.

Some have mentioned to me of not being able to post messages. I want to provide some tips for posting messages to this site, which is based on WordPress. The Wordpress site provides posting instructions that may help.
Looking at the administrative parts of this blog site for the first time in a while, I’ve notice a couple of draft messages that didn’t get posted to the site. This normally happens when the message is saved instead of published. I went ahead and published the ones I see. Otherwise, there may be something not right on your web browser. If you still have trouble posting, please leave comment and I can try to assist.
Another tip is the RSS feed links I added under the Account tab. Btw, I hardly go to this web site directly and instead receive the RSS feeds.
Something to note, this web now comes up #4 on Google searches. Hope all the complaints we make here don’t scare off any potiential buyers.

To anyone who lives on the 6th floor or higher:
It’s Saturday Morning….Sitting at home watching TV.
About to start my day. I have my shades up so i can
see the hustle and bustle of the neighborhood. Then
out of no where I see something fall and land on my
small ledge in front of my window. I’m in 505 facing
the parking lot across the flower market.
I know what it’s like to take a little bit of time
alone and smoking a cigarette. I use to smoke. BUT
PLEASE, for EVERYONE safety and to protect EVERYONE’S
investment, their LOFTS/Home, and just for the general
cleanliness of the neighborhood and our block. PLEASE
DO NOT THROW YOUR CIGARETTE OUT THE
WINDOW!!!!SPECIALLY WHEN IT IS STILL LIT!!!! Yes, it
landed on my window ledge still lit!!!
This post is mainly directed to anyone who was
smoking in their Loft or fire escape on the 6th floor
and higher who has a Unit that faces the Flower Market
Parking Lot.
Thank You
