What have people been doing about their washer/dryer if anything? I’d like to get a decent washer and dryer that can handle bigger loads but our units only support the smaller 120V combo units that I’ve heard do not work as well as larger models. Has anyone switched out their outlet for a larger 220/240V? I’d be interested to hear what you guys have been doing about laundry.

Hi All,
I know that Boards position is to speak with one voice and that’s sound thinking but have you guys come to an agreement on the issue of the Gates?
We are all still very concerned about our Mills Act Status and would like an update to settle our frayed nerves.
Has the City made their inspection?
Have they contacted Isaac and MJW to remedy the situation?
Has the City and the Historical Society sent notices to Isaac and were you copied on this information so that we may all learn what is going on?
FYI Not only has Isaac installed these security gates but in doing so he may have removed the row of tiles to install the housing.
There is also a hole in the east side of the building on the lower wall beneath the glass close to 8th Street?
I am concerned about the timeline for the City to put pressure on Isaac while MJW is still involved. Once MJW closes escrow on the last unit the Historical Society will have only us to turn to and we will end up in a battle over fines and the cost to repair the facade.
So please, if you “guys” have decided on your position please send a quick note out to let us know.
Again, we have not received the minutes from either meeting nor have we received the memo regarding the date in March that the “official” home owners meeting will take place.
I know this is not what is going on but it feels like the Boards silence is equivalent to all of the stalling tactics that MJW has used on us for the last 6 months.
The condition of the building is bordering on deplorable… what is going on?

For the past several weeks, I have been using the a/c periodically without any problems. Tonight is the first cold night we’ve had in a while. When I turn on my heater, cool air blows out and continues to run. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me?
Tomorrow night’s forecast looks pretty cold too.

Update: Per Selma’s 9:32am message, she will be contacting the HVAC Company.
Update 2: Heater is working for some units Friday night.

I’m a fan of using the back gate coming into the building since I get home from work late and I go through that way when I work out in the morning. Lately, I’ve noticed that the gate hasn’t been closed all the way and like every individual in the building, I’m cautious and always concerned for my safety. Even though I know no one can get in without a key, I still think it is a security issue for accessing the building.
So just to harp – when leaving the building from the back gate, please check to make sure the gate fully closes. Thanks!

Hi all-
i’m a freak about clean air and water- which as you all know, are both terrible downtown. two links: 1)GREAT Merv rating air filters that fit our 18×18x1 systems. Filters run from $2 to $15 depending on the ability to clean the air. The filter i’m suggesting is the expensive one, but actually cleans your air of dust, pollen, spores, mold, dander, hangovers even. and your house will stay cleaner. don’t go to HomeDepot, they won’t have them. order them online via the link below. 2) The water down here is horrible. i found an amazing shower filter that takes all of the junk out and makes your hair and skin feel awesome. Some know, the chlorine in all municpal water turns to chlorine gas when heated as in a shower. then you get to breathe in the lovely chlorine gas. dangerous. This website is run by a guy that is helpful and gives a money back guarantee. if you remove the water restrictor, the pressure is 10x’s better than what we currently have. The filter is really well priced. hope it helps. my public service announcment! follow link to Mr. Water Filter!!!
1) Home Depot: True Blue Ultra Air 4 pack:

I spent a some time trying to work from the roof today, but wasn’t able to find strong wifi access there.

My cell phone’s 236kbps GPRS/Edge connection is a little slow to work all day on and I can’t be on calls when connected. Anyone on the upper floors willing to share their connection there? If the HOA approves, I could run wires from my DSL line and place a wireless router on the roof. This will encourage more people to visit the roof and can be more of a community area, where everyone can hang out.
And thanks to whoever added the table and chairs there.

It is my understanding that after the Feb. 15th meeting of the Board they will decide on a date for the first HOA meeting.
I would like a category added to the list if that is possible…
The category is HOA meeting: Things to discuss
I know that Renea has been compiling and keeping the list accumulated through our emails but I think this would be a great category to add not problems owners are experiencing but issues they would like to bring up. i.e: Operating Budget for 2007, final costs for 2006, why the office of Sec/Treasurer is one office etc.,
The announcement that LB Management will send, per the BoD will state that the Homeowners have until (date decided by the Bod) to communicate with the Board the issues to be discussed so that the meeting will not meander all over the place but stick to the issues established.
Thanks Jason.

Tom Wudl would like to invite everybody interested in checking out his website to learn more about his classes.
The link is www.wudl.net
Classes are held Monday – Thursday from 10 am to 4 pm. Each class meets once a week.
He also has some openings in his evening class held on Tuesdays from 6:30pm to 9:30 pm.
When you go to his website some of the things you will learn about are his methodology for teaching. There are no set projects. Each student works in any medium they chose: painting (oil, acrylic, watercolor, tempera), sculptor, collage, etc.
There is no set experience level. So if you are a beginner or someone who has been painting some time but feels stuck or someone who is trying to put a portfolio together to enter an undergraduate or graduate program.
The day classes break for lunch, after which Tom reads from various art books, journals, biographies, etc. and breaks down the verbiage and then explains who else was working at that time, who was influenced by the work and how a particular artist changed the artworld forever.
I am one of Tom’s students. At this point in my career I help manage his studio and he is my mentor. I have gained so much from studying under him; the least of which is an art history education that is far ahead of any college course offered.
And even if you are not interested in his web site his art work is something to see. (FYI LA Louver is the gallery that represents him.)
Thanks for your time,
Cidney

Jamaica Abare is inviting everyone to a tour of Union Rescue Mission on Saturday, Feb 24 at 10am. Everyone will be meeting in the lobby at 9:40am.
Being confronted by homelessness on a daily basis down here, it seems like
it would be beneficial to know exactly what resources are available to the
homeless and how we can help.
Having tutored homeless children weekly at the Midnight Mission when I lived in the Old Bank District, I think this is a great opportunity to meet our neighbors. I will try to make it myself if I can get my two girls ready in time.

This is the first blog I am participating in.
I hope this simplifies corresponding to each other on issues, as well as informing the BoD of problems.
Thanks Jason for putting this together for all of us to participate in.
