Filming

IMG_0701
While the filming and the extra lights outside isn’t bothering me, the diseal generator to power those lights is directly across the street from us and is very loud, even with my windows closed. Also, a notice wasn’t posted in our building either. I just filed my complaint with Film LA.

Accident on 8th and Maple

Accident
Accident on 8th and Maple today. Great response time from LAPD, LAFD, and Fashion District BID, who were all there within 5 minutes. Good to know if there are any medical emergencies. There is no damage to our building, except some scrapes from projectiles.

Little Tokyo Market Place

I finally got a chance to see the newly rennovated Little Tokyo Market Place, formerly named Mitsuwa Marketplace and closed on January 25, 2009.

My initial thought was a cleaner environment, higher turnover, less expensive vegetables and more people. If you’re trying to save money on your grocery bill, this is definitly worth checking out. Many vegetables have prices that march Central Market with much better quality.

Like Ralph’s, its location is walkable and easily accessible without driving. As a bonus, Beard Papa’s cream puffs are available next door.

Kid Friendly neighborhood

I ran an interesting article called Kid Friendly Downtown. Its a coincidence that the writer takes her kids to the same school as Cynthia and Sabrina. I agree that it is hard for families in the area to connect. Compared to the suburbs or other parts of the city where I’ve lived in the past, its definitely easier.

In the past, I have ran into people I know at the local Ralph’s, Grand-Hope park, Central Library, and Pershing Square, but it doesn’t happen very often. Perhaps with our neighborhood being a regional destination, its difficult to tell if someone is a visitor or local.

Fire on 8th and Santee

Just as we thought the wild fires in southern california that started last weekend are over, the building next door (8th and Santee) started burning earlier afternoon. Below are some pictures taken from my window.
